Borussia Dortmund have a surprise admirer in none other than José Mourinho.

The Portuguese tactician has been away from the dugout since leaving Manchester United in December.

However, he continues to do the media rounds, with his latest interview taking place with Sport Bild.

In it, he revealed how high a regard he holds Borussia Dortmund in, having even acted as a de facto scout for the club.

“I really admire the work of BVB, I am impressed with how they compete with a giant like Bayern Munich,” he said.

“I have also known [managing director Hans Joachim] Watzke for a long time.

“He trusted me enough to ask my opinion about a player and coach I know well.

“I was honest and gave him my best opinion. We have always had great respect for each other.”

BVB relinquished top spot in the Bundesliga last weekend following a 5-0 defeat away to Bayern Munich.
