Mourinho Eyes Jadon Sancho as Fenerbahce Plot Unexpected Move

Forgotten Winger Could Get Career Lifeline in Istanbul

There was a time when Jadon Sancho’s name echoed across Europe as one of the continent’s most gifted young forwards. Fast forward to the summer of 2025, and the £73 million man has become something of a puzzle Manchester United no longer wish to solve. Now, a figure from the club’s past may be preparing to offer a lifeline.

According to Football Transfers, “Mourinho’s Fenerbahce could prove an unlikely saviour for the Red Devils, with the Istanbul side taking an interest in the 25-year-old attacker.”

Having endured a limp loan spell at Chelsea, Sancho has returned to Old Trafford with little fanfare and even less clarity about his future. Football Transfers reports that “the Blues paid €6m for Man Utd to take him back after a disappointing campaign at Stamford Bridge,” making it clear Chelsea have no interest in activating a permanent deal.

No Place in Amorim’s Plans

With Ruben Amorim now at the helm, United appear to be moving in a different tactical direction. Sancho, once a creative force at Borussia Dortmund, no longer fits the style or system of a manager who favours high intensity and directness.

The report outlines that Sancho “does not fit into Amorim’s plans and is set to be shipped out during the window.” That exit strategy could now take him to Istanbul, where Jose Mourinho has taken over at Fenerbahce and is reshaping the Turkish giants.

According to Turkish outlet Milliyet, officials from Fenerbahce are already in Manchester “to hold transfer talks, with the subject of their interest Sancho.” It’s a curious but potentially logical destination for a player in need of confidence, rhythm, and a reset.

Mourinho’s Uncertain Future Adds Intrigue

Whether Mourinho will still be Fenerbahce boss by the end of the summer remains to be seen. As Football Transfers note, “there is speculation that he could leave the club,” amid interest from clubs like Inter Milan. But for now, his presence remains a persuasive factor.

If Sancho is to rebuild, few managers know how to restore reputations quite like Mourinho. His CV still commands respect and, in the right environment, he could be the mentor Sancho has lacked in recent years.

That said, Fenerbahce are chasing other high-profile targets too, including Randal Kolo Muani and Leroy Sané, adding further complexity to the deal.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

Jadon Sancho’s story is tinged with regret. A player signed with enormous promise has failed to ignite across multiple seasons. With the arrival of Ruben Amorim, who has already shown signs of tactical clarity, it feels inevitable that Sancho must move on.

There’s little to be gained from keeping a disinterested or ill-fitting figure in a squad chasing a new identity. If Mourinho and Fenerbahce are indeed serious, United should act decisively. A fresh start for the player and a clean break for the club.

As for Sancho himself, Turkey might not have been the dream he envisioned when leaving Dortmund, but it could be the reset his career desperately needs. Mourinho’s track record with attackers, whether it be Eden Hazard or Willian, might offer reassurance that Sancho can rediscover his confidence under structured leadership.

It’s not about prestige anymore. It’s about relevance. If Sancho still wants to matter in football’s top tier, he has to start again. Istanbul may be a surprising place to do so, but it might just be the right one.
