Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly been approached to become the new manager of Turkish giants Fenerbahce.

The Portuguese has been out of work since being sacked by Roma in January.

The Istanbul club are second in the league and have accumulated an impressive 93 points from 36 games, only losing one league match all season.

However, unluckily for them, arch-rivals Galatasaray have just been that little better and sit six points clear with two games remaining in the season.

Mourinho has been linked to numerous jobs in the last few months and there was even a shock report last week that he would love to have the opportunity to return to Old Trafford for a second bite at the cherry.

In addition, he has also been linked to the Bayern Munich job and even the Canadian national team, as has another former United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The “special one” has also been linked to a host of jobs in Saudi Arabia but he has so far failed to agree any moves.

Now reports in Turkey (via The Sun) suggest that Mourinho could be on his way to Istanbul.

Former Fenerbahce president, Aziz Yıldırım, has boldly claimed that if he were to be voted as president of the club, he already has an agreement with Mourinho to become coach of the Sarı Kanaryalar.

He posted on X yesterday, “we agreed with Jose Mourinho. If we are elected president, he will come to Turkey.”

Should this deal come to pass it would be a massive one for Turkish football and the name of Mourinho would probably attract numerous players to try their luck in Istanbul.

As one of the most dominant and richest teams in the land, who have also qualified for the Champions League, Fenerbahce are likely to be a tempting role for the Portuguese to get his teeth into.

One player Mourinho would know well should he join the side is former United man Fred. The Brazilian has enjoyed a successful first season in Turkey, playing 33 games in all competitions, scoring three goals and creating eight more for his teammates in all competitions.

In addition, never a manager to shy away from confrontation, it is possible Mourinho would thrive in the hostile, passionate cauldron of Turkish football and relish the chance to end a league trophy drought for the Turkish club that has now lasted a decade.
