Roma boss José Mourinho has been handed a two-match ban and a €10,000 fine after his reaction to a red card in Roma’s loss to struggling Cremonese on Tuesday.
The red card was Mourinho’s third of the season, more than any player in Serie A, and the league say he has now been punished after entering the referee’s dressing room and using “offensive expressions” after the match.
Speaking after the game, Mourinho said he was “emotional but not crazy” and said he wanted to “understand if (I) can take any legal action” after he was sent off.
The Roma boss said he wanted to know if there was an audio recording of the incident as he accused fourth official Marco Serra of provoking him.
Mourinho is now banned for Roma’s game against to Juventus this weekend and alluded to the fact Serra is from Turin.
“For the first time in my career, a fourth official spoke to me in the most incredible way. It was unjustifiable,” the Portuguese manager added
“At the end of the game, I went to speak to them. (Referee) Piccinini, who was the fourth official in the last game when I was sent off, told me to apologise to Serra. I told Serra he should have the courage to explain what happened, but he had memory problems.”
As well as the weekend’s visit of Juventus, Mourinho will also miss a game against Sassuolo.
