Roma coach Jose Mourinho was furious with refereeing decisions as well as whistles for Romelu Lukaku in yesterday’s Serie A match against Inter Milan.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInter1908. The newspaper report that Mourinho watched the second half of the match from the Giallorossi team bus.
Mourinho was not on the touchline for yesterday evening’s match.
A ban incurred after late antics during the closing stages of last weekend’s match against Monza made sure of that.
The Portuguese coach, however, hardly needs to be physically present in order to bring an edge of controversy.
And according to the Corriere, that’s how it went at the San Siro yesterday.
First of all, the Corriere report that Mourinho was far from happy with the officiating of Fabio Maresca.
This was the case from basically the first whistle as the Roma coach observed proceedings from the stands.
The newspaper relate that Mourinho was particularly irate following a 14th minute booking for Gianluca Mancini.
The 28-year-old Italian international defender was the Giallorossi’s captain on the night in the absence of Lorenzo Pellegrini.
And Maresca booked Mancini for his protestations early on in the match. Mourinho was very annoyed to see his captain go into the book so early on in those circumstances.
Moreover, the Corriere report, Mourinho was annoyed by the whistles for striker Lukaku.
The authorities did take some measures to prevent whistles from entering the San Siro.
But some were certainly present, as they were audible when Lukaku got on the ball.
Mourinho was angry that despite the steps taken to prevent the whistles from getting in, they were there to put his star striker’s performance off.
Eventually, the Roma got angry enough that he left the stands.
Mourinho retired to the Giallorossi team bus. There he communicated with his staff over the phone as the match had a conclusion to forget for the veteran coach.
