Atletico Madrid President Enrique Cerezo said this week that he believed that Alvaro Morata would be staying at the club this summer, but that has not cooled talk surrounding his future. Morata himself had said amongst speculation that Atletico were looking at strikers that he would leave if he was not a priority.
Morata would prefer to head back to Serie A, and in particular former club Juventus if possible – Diario AS say that the Bianconeri and Roma are interested in him, but neither is he a priority. The same goes for Borussia Dortmund, who are pursuing Serhou Guirassy, and Manchester United, who are looking for an alternative to Rasmus Hojlund.
However the one side that are willing to make him their top target are Fenerbahce, who now managed by his former coach at Real Madrid Jose Mourinho are looking to make a splash this summer. Morata has a €15m release clause, and the Turkish giants are looking to replace Edin Dzeko, although they are also looking at departing Atletico teammate Memphis Depay.
While he remains a streaky forward in front of goal, Morata remains one of the most useful in Europe in terms of pressing, movement and physical attributes. It’s no surprise he still has plenty of teams interested, even if at the very top level trust is waning.
