Manchester United boss José Mourinho has just one game to save his job.

At least, that’s according to the Daily Mail, who claim United’s players were “confused” by Mourinho’s tactics in Monday’s 3-0 defeat to Tottenham and another defeat in their next game could see the Portuguese given his marching orders.

The Red Devils lined up in an unusual 3-5-1-1 formation for the visit of Spurs, with Ander Herrera deployed as a central defender, and a report by The Sun claims the players were made to feel “uncomfortable” by Mourinho’s tactics.

“While United’s dressing room used to be a happy, vibrant place, it has now gone quiet,” writes The Sun’s Neil Custis.

“Players are reluctant to express opinions to their under-pressure boss about their plight.”

Anthony Martial and Eric Bailly were said to have been left particularly disgruntled by being left out of the matchday squad, while Mourinho’s post-match press conference antics reportedly caused “bemusement” in the United boardroom.

Mourinho takes his side to face Burnley on Sunday and the Daily Mail say players and staff believe the former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss will be sacked if they make it three defeats on the bounce.

Interestingly, they note that while Mourinho has not yet lost the dressing room, morale has suffered greatly in recent months.

Turf Moor isn’t the ideal ground to visit when you desperately need a win, and this game therefore promises to be fascinating.
