José Fonte, 41, extends career after signing new contract

Primeira Liga side Casa Pia have announced that they have reached an agreement with José Fonte for the extension of the contract for the 2025/26 season.

Having joined the club at the beginning of last season, the former Crystal Palace, Southampton, and West Ham United man quickly established himself and was named club captain. Despite his advancing years he featured in 26 games for the Lisbon-based team.

Casa Pia, who were briefly managed by current Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim, finished ninth in the Portuguese league last season.

Interestingly, José's younger brother Rui Fonte – who spent time at Fulham – did announce his retirement this summer and has now taken up a coaching job with SC Braga.
