José de Jesús Corona reportedly asks to leave Cruz Azul | OneFootball

Long-time Mexican international goalkeeper José de Jesús Corona, who earned 54 caps, has established himself as a Cruz Azul legend.

At age 38, he may have decided it’s time to return home.

According to Mexican newspaper El Universal, Corona has asked to leave the club in order to return to his native Guadalajara.

Of course, that would mean the experienced shot-stopper would either return to play at Atlas, where his career began, or at Chivas, whom he has been linked with for well over a month.

He is well remembered at Chivas for his heroics in the 2005 Copa Libertadores quarter-finals – when he was briefly loaned to the club and starred in their 4-0 aggregate win over Boca Juniors.

Corona has been Cruz Azul’s number one goalkeeper since his arrival from Estudiantes Tecos in 2009, featuring a whopping 362 times, earning 119 clean sheets.

Corona still has one year remaining on his deal and is a two-time Copa MX champion
