Jorrel Hato makes transfer decision amid Chelsea talks

Jorrel Hato has informed Ajax that he ‘only wants Chelsea’ as transfer talks between the clubs continue.

Chelsea are working on a deal to sign the Dutch defender from Ajax, with Hato named as the Eredivisie’s Talent of the Year for 2024/25.

The 19-year-old has also attracted interest from Liverpool and Arsenal, but has decided on Chelsea as his preferred destination amid a concrete approach from West London.

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that personal terms between Hato and Chelsea have already been agreed and discussions between the two clubs over a fee are set to continue this week.

Hato has already made 111 senior appearances for Ajax and has earned six caps for the Netherlands at senior level.

In 2023, he became the youngest-ever player to captain Ajax in a European game when wearing the armband against AEK Athens, aged 17 years and 282 days.

He featured primarily at left-back in 2024/25, but can also play in central defence. Last season, he scored twice and provided six assists in the Eredivisie as Ajax narrowly missed out on the title to PSV Eindhoven.
