Joris Mathijsen has left ADO Den Haag effective immediately as per Voetbal International. The technical director and the shareholder, Bolt, have parted ways by mutual agreement. The players were informed of this decision on Friday afternoon.

The outlet explain that the chaos at ADO was already evident in recent days. John van den Brom was supposed to join the club, replacing departed manager Darije Kalezic. But Mathijsen couldn’t force Bolt to accept that decision. The investor also steered the extension of captain Alex Schalk and several other players.

The start of preseason was postponed and ultimately resumed without a head coach. Meanwhile, Mathijsen was at odds with Bolt, for whom the Brit Scott McLachlan was supposed to be the technical brain. Meanwhile, the technical director, after a painful interview on Omroep West, became the scapegoat.

Mathijsen had to address worried fans, but he tried to avoid them through a back exit. However, they were on high alert and detained the technical director. At that moment, “his final hour as policymaker for the traditional club seemed to have arrived.”
