Jorginho insists Chelsea had a great first season under Maurizio Sarri despite facing criticism from both fans and media.
The 27-year-old followed Sarri to Stamford Bridge last summer and found his ability questioned repeatedly despite a strong start.
But Jorginho insists that while their domestic performance was disappointing, the Blues are happy with their campaign overall.
“It’s wonderful to win such an important trophy after a long, tough, difficult season, but I think we deserved it,” he told the Express.
“Aside from all the criticism, I think we had a great season. We finished third in the Premier League, reached the final of the Carabao Cup and won the Europa League.
“Criticism is part of the game, but I want to thank everyone who made this long journey to come here and cheer us on.
“I salute my wife and kids, who unfortunately couldn’t come to Azerbaijan because of the chaos it took to get here!”
Chelsea start their pre-season campaign in Japan where they face Kawasaki Frontale and Barcelona.
