Jorginho: ‘Premier League made me stronger for Italy’ | OneFootball

Jorginho explains how playing for Arsenal and Chelsea made him ‘stronger’ and the ‘positive’ atmosphere within Luciano Spalletti’s Italy squad.

The midfielder is expected to start Sunday’s friendly match against Ecuador in New Jersey, having come off the bench in the 2-1 win over Venezuela in Fort Lauderdale on Thursday evening.

This American trip is part of the warm-up for the Euro 2024 tournament in Germany, starting in June.

“There is a great union and a positive atmosphere is building within the squad,” Jorginho told Sky Sport Italia.

“We get along well, and that is fundamental. On and off the field, we joke and laugh. It might seem banal, but this helps teams to play better on match day.”

Jorginho moved to Chelsea in the summer of 2018, then switched to fellow London club Arsenal in January 2023.

His form was revitalised with the Gunners and earned him a recall for the Nazionale after some missed penalties saw him drop down the pecking order.

“The experience in the Premier League made me stronger, especially in terms of being aggressive. Perhaps that was something I was lacking in my game before that.

“There is always room to improve and that is what I want to do every day.”

Part of the Euro 2020 winning squad, Jorginho has 50 senior caps for Italy and scored five goals.
