When Thomas Tuchel left Jorginho out of the team to face Watford two weeks ago, he pointed out that it was because of a hip problem.
The issue was allowing the midfielder to play, but with some pain, and clearly it’s vital to rest him when possible.
After some bad results, this weekend’s game against Leeds wasn’t the sort of match we could rest the Italy international for, and he ended up playing an important role, slotting two penalties.
Speaking after the game, he gave some more details about his injury issues, describing them as to do with his back rather than his hip.
Whether or not that’s a new issue or just a mistake on Tuchel’s part, we’re not sure.
You can see the playmaker’s quotes from the Chelsea official site here:
“My back is not in the best condition but when you need to push yourself even more to help your team it’s what you have to do. It’s hard but you have to do it. It’s the best thing you can do.”
We will need all our players to grit their teeth and step up, just like Jorgi has, if we’re going to battle through this tough period to come.
