Jorginho given man of the match but RLC the real star as Blues win | OneFootball

It was interesting to see that Jorginho won the UEFA Man of the Match award. Most Chelsea fans were raving about Ruben Loftus-Cheek or Callum Hudson-Odoi, and Hakim Ziyech got the goal.

In order to see whether this was an anomaly or just some kind of perception bias, we looked at WhoScored‘s stats.

They back up the eye test. Their player rating system which composites various stats had Ruben as an 8.7, the highest on the team. His balanced performance of both creating and destroying in midfield was reflected in good numbers.

Jorginho, on a solid 7, was actually third lowest on the team. He was by no means bad, but MOTM seems a stretch.

It’s never clear how these things are worked out, and it’s only a trinket anyway – but it would have been nice to see Ruben holding it with a smile on his face after his first Champions League start in 6 years.
