While Mexico disappointed with a 1-1 draw against Canada at the Estadio Azteca on Thursday night, one bright spot was Jorge Sánchez scoring his first-career goal with the National Team.
The 23-year-old, who is under contract at América until summer 2025, expressed gratitude and relief after scoring in his 18th cap.
“The Mexican National Team was very happy with my first goal, all thanks to God.
“It was not the result we expected but we will continue to achieve the goal that we long for.”
For the bronze-medal winner, it was just his third goal as a professional footballer, having previously scored twice in 159 career appearances with both América and Santos Laguna.
His first-ever goal came against Monarcas during the 2018 Apertura while his second came against Atlas during the 2020 Apertura.
