At the recent Globe Soccer Awards gala, Barcelona’s young sensation Lamine Yamal and his agent Jorge Mendes both walked away with prestigious accolades.

Yamal was honoured with the Best Emerging Player award, following a brilliant year that saw him win the European Championship and establish himself as one of the hottest prospects in world football.

Mendes, meanwhile, was celebrated as the Best Agent, a testament to his influential role in football management.

Mendes on Lamine Yamal

Following the awards, Jorge Mendes was clear about Lamine Yamal’s future, suggesting that the Spaniard is here to stay.

“Lamine’s future is in Barcelona. Barcelona is his place. He will renew his contract and will stay there for many years,” he said.

Mendes’ statement is a clear indication that Yamal’s future at Barcelona won’t be a talking point in Europe anytime soon.

Mendes also touched on why Yamal might not have been considered for the Best Men’s Player Award, which went to Real Madrid’s Vinicius.

“Lamine Yamal was the best player in the world this year but he is a victim of his age. Many people who voted thought he was 17 and would have time to win these awards,” he explained.

Finally, Mendes talked about Yamal being compared to none other than Lionel Messi and the early pressures he is facing in his career.

Mendes, though, was firm in his stance. “I don’t like comparing players and I didn’t notice any pressure.”
