AC Milan and Rafael Leao have reached an impasse in negotiations to extend the player’s contract and his agent Jorge Mendes is working to find suitors for his client.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Mendes reached out to Real Madrid to see if they want the player, but there is no interest right now.
Milan and Leao were close to agreeing a deal before talks stalled. The parties are still apart in many aspects and won’t reach any agreement soon.
Mendes expects to return to the table sometime between April and June to reopen negotiations for the Portuguese star.
The Rossoneri want their star man to stay, but Mendes wants them to make an offer that matches his status as one of the best in the league.
Mendes and Leao rejected the last contract offer, but the Serie A club believes they can still strike a deal.
However, Mendes does not wait around. He contacted Los Blancos last month to see if they want his client in a summer deal.
At the moment, the La Liga club does not have an interest in Leao. Revamping their midfield and full-back areas remain the priority.
Leao plays on the left wing, and Madrid already have Vinicius Jr, who operates from the left. Rodrygo Goes, who has been playing on the right flank, is also a left-winger.
As for Leao, he reportedly likes Italy and wants to stay in Milan. He will wait for the next offer they put on the table.
The 23-year-old is a target for Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea. The Blues moved to sign him last summer but were unsuccessful before going for Mykhailo Mudryk in January.
