It appears that the soap opera about Jorge Jesus’ renewal with Flamengo had a happy ending on Tuesday.

According to the newspaper O Dia, the 65-year-old Portuguese manager has renewed his contract with the Rubro-Negro until June 2021.

Vice-president Marcos Braz created lots of speculation earlier in the day after he posted an image of the Portuguese flag on his Twitter page and the caption ‘Bandeira linda…’ (Beautiful flag).

According to the article, one of the manager’s representatives was in a meeting with Flamengo’s board members on Tuesday going over final details before sealing his renewal.

It’s believed Jesus will earn about €4m (currently R$23m) in his new agreement, in addition to the awards for titles. The payments will be based on how the Euro is performing compared to the Real on the day of each payment.

Of course, little needs to be said about Jesus’ success at Flamengo, where he has won more titles (five) than games lost (four).

In 51 matches with the club, he holds a record of 38 wins, nine draws, and four defeats (80.39%), with Flamengo scoring 118 goals over that stretch while only conceding 45.

It’s said that Flamengo will officially make the announcement within the next few days.
