Jorge Jesus was full of praise for the opposition but critical of his side’s finishing after Flamengo’s 2-0 win over Volta Redonda.
The sides met in the semi-final of the Taça Rio on Sunday, with Flamengo advancing to face Fluminense in the final on Wednesday.
A goal from each half from striker Bruno Henrique was enough for the Rubro-Negro, though their manager was not pleased by their profligacy.
“Once again we managed to have a good performance. We scored goals and we could have left the field with four or five goals scored,” Jesus told Fla TV (via Gazeta Esportiva).
“We are sinning a little bit at the time of finishing, by giving an extra touch. Volta Redonda is a better team than we played before and forced us to race more.”
Turning his attention to Wednesday’s decider, Jesus tried to dismiss suggestions that his side will enter as favourites.
“We have to respect Fluminense as we do with all our opponents,” the Portugal native said.
“Before the match, Flamengo will do better, but after the game I don’t know. There is no favorite in the finals and we are going to work for Wednesday.”
Victory in midweek would would not only see the Mengão collect the Taça Rio, but would also secure them the Carioca Championship.
Should Fluminense upset their neighbours, the Carioca would be decided by another meeting of the sides.
