Real Betis’ LaLiga top four hopes were dealt a huge blow when they suffered a last gasp defeat at the hands of Barcelona on Saturday night.

Betis were dealt an early blow when goalkeeper Claudio Bravo had to go off injured after just 17 minutes. Rui Silva came on to replace him and was soon called into action to make a magnificent save to tip Ronald Araújo’s header from a corner onto the crossbar.

Guido Rodríguez then went close to giving Betis the lead in the 29th minute when his shot rattled the foot of the post.

Barça brought Ansu Fati off the bench to replace Ferran Torres in the second half and with just his second touch of the game, the teenager broke the deadlock when he poked expertly into the bottom corner.

But the visitors were in front for just a few minutes and it was their former player Marc Bartra who equalised for Betis when he headed home from Nabil Fekir’s set-piece delivery.

There was to be late drama, however, with Jordi Alba popping up to score a thunderous volley from Dani Alves’s cross to earn all three points for Barcelona deep into stoppage time.

That result leaves Barça five points ahead of Sevilla, while Betis remain three points behind Atlético Madrid with three matches remaining.

Atlético take on Real Madrid on Sunday.
