Jordan Morris should be a signing to excite the Swansea fans as they build for promotion, if he can find a place to thrive in their team…
Swansea are starting to believe.
Steve Cooper’s side are second in the Championship after beating one of the division’s other form sides, Barnsley, at the weekend.
Cooper has managed this with a thin squad, particularly up front, so the arrival of any reinforcement will be welcome.
But their latest signing, Jordan Morris on loan for the rest of the season from Seattle Sounders, might be a little more than simply someone to beef up their squad.
That’s if he’s as good as Sam Parkin reckons he could be.
“I’ve sat on the fence quite a lot so I’m going to go all in here,” said Sam on The Totally Football League Show this week.
“I’d be really excited if I was a Swansea supporter. He had a really bad injury a few years ago, but since he’s been back fit he’s been outstanding. He’s an amazing athlete, very powerful, direct runner. He played in a 4-2-3-1 for Seattle, wide on the left and coming infield.
“I’ve seen him play as a No.9 too, he’s played wide right, gets goals. His physical attributes should be really suited to the Championship.
“My one concern would be how Swansea set up, that 3-4-1-2 which is pretty set in stone. He’s not a No.10, because he wouldn’t be comfortable receiving the ball on the half-turn with little passes – that’s not his game. He’d have to play as a striker, as an alternative to Jamal Lowe with Andre Ayew, I’d imagine, which he could no problem at all, but he’d be better in a 4-2-3-1/4-3-3 in a wide position.
“This lad, when I’ve watched him in MLS, I’ve thought ‘surely someone in Europe will take a chance on him.’”
