It's been a bitterly disappointing campaign for Birmingham City, and the side from St Andrew's are fighting for their lives as they look to retain their Championship status.

Despite their struggles this season, Birmingham undoubtedly have some talented players on their books, and should arguably be performing better given some of the talent at their disposal.

However, poor calls from the Blues' hierarchy, such as sacking John Eustace and replacing him with Wayne Rooney, have led to the club's slide down the league table.

Regardless of what league the club are in next season, there's bound to be interest in some of Birmingham's better players, so using Transfermarkt we took a look at the market value of the club's five best players.

John Ruddy - £215k

Veteran goalkeeper John Ruddy has a Transfermarkt value of €250,000, which equates to 215,000 in pounds.

Despite Birmingham's woes this season, Ruddy has been one of the side's better performers, but he sees his deal at St Andrew's expire this summer.

The 37-year-old still has plenty of life left in him, and has been the subject of transfer interest from Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers as John Eustace looks to reunite with his former goalkeeper after bringing him to St Andrew's in the summer of 2022.

The former England international only has a minimal market value because of his age, but he's still a very useful player, as seen by his performances this year.

Lee Buchanan - £1.7m

Left-back Lee Buchanan has been in fine form in recent weeks, and has really begun to show why the club signed him from Werder Bremen last summer.

The 23-year-old is valued by Transfermarkt at £1.7m, but that's sure to go up if he continues to impress.

Birmingham paid a reported £1.3million to bring him to the club last summer, and that's beginning to look like a bargain.

If Birmingham were relegated this season, you'd certainly expect some Championship clubs to test the waters with a move for Buchanan.

Jay Stansfield - £2.75m

Jay Stansfield has been a revelation since joining the club on loan from Fulham in the summer, and is said to have a market value of £2.75m according to Transfermarkt.

However, if a club wished to sign Stansfield, you'd have thought that Fulham would be asking for a lot more money than that, with the 21-year-old set to have a very big future in the game.

The striker has proven that he's able to score goals, and despite playing in a struggling side, he's into double figures for goals this season.

If Birmingham were to survive, they'd certainly be interested in signing Stansfield on a permanent basis, but it's unlikely that they'll be able to get him for as cheap as £2.75m.

Juninho Bacuna - £3.4m

Midfielder Juninho Bacuna has performed admirably for Birmingham this season, and has a market value of £3.4m, according to Transfermarkt.

The 26-year-old joined the club from Rangers in January 2022, and has been a regular starter for Blues throughout this campaign.

He's also chipped in with goals this season, and has been seemingly popular with all of Birmingham's managers this season.

With a year left on his deal, Birmingham may be forced to sell him this summer if they're unable to agree fresh terms, so it remains to be seen what the future holds for Bacuna.

Jordan James - £3.8m

19-year-old midfielder Jordan James is the Birmingham player with the highest market value according to Transfermarkt.

Given his age and performances both in the Championship and at international level, it's clear to see why, and Birmingham must remain in the second tier if they're to have any chance of keeping him at the club this summer.
