Jordan Henderson's wages at Ajax revealed following transfer | OneFootball

Jordan Henderson has instantly become Ajax's top earner following his January transfer from Al Ettifaq, with his wages having now been revealed.

The former Liverpool captain moved to Saudi Pro League side Al Ettifaq last summer for £12m, departing Anfield after 12 years with the Reds.

However, the 33-year-old struggled to adapt to life in Asia, desperate to leave Saudi Arabia in the current transfer window.

While it came at a great financial expense to Henderson, the midfielder was granted his wish, making the move to Dutch giants Ajax.

Henderson was reportedly on £700,000-a-week at Al Ettifaq, although that's a figure that the former Sunderland man disputes. To ensure a move this winter, he has had to take a significant pay cut.

However, Liverpool's former No. 14 is still on a handsome salary in Amsterdam, reportedly taking home €4.5m-a-year on top of his €1.5m signing-on fees.

That's according to Ajax journalist Valentijn Driessen (via FootballTransfers), meaning Henderson will earn approximately £75,000-a-year at the Johan Cruijff ArenA - making him the top earner at the club.

According to Driessen, Henderson will have to pay less tax than he did during his time in England, potentially joining the players' fund in which he would only have to pay 30%.

The journalist has also labelled Ajax's decision to sign Henderson as a 'panic buy', suggesting his age profile and salary make him a short-sighted acquisition.

The England international's arrival at Ajax has already been met with significant fanfare, Henderson's shirt already becoming the fastest-selling in the Dutch club's history. Given the sensational talents that have graced Ajax in the past, that's no mean feat.

Henderson will be hopeful of rejuvenating Ajax's season, the four-time European Cup winners having endured a difficult campaign to date.

Currently sat fifth in the Eredivisie, a whopping 23 points off league leaders PSV Eindhoven, Ajax are next in action on Sunday 21 January against RKC Waalwijk, a fixture that Henderson could make his debut in.
