Jordan Henderson singles out Manchester Utd man for praise | OneFootball

Jordan Henderson has offered praise for Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford in the player’s fight against food poverty.

The Reds and the Red Devils go head-to-head this afternoon in the Premier League with top spot on offer for the winner and the obvious bragging rights that come with it.

However, ahead of the game, the rivalry has been put aside just for a moment by Reds skipper Henderson to allow him to praise the work Rashford has done in recent months in trying to help young children receive better food and nutrition than they are getting.

He has regularly held the government to account and spoken with the Prime Minister over food poverty issues, prompting Henderson to applaud his efforts.

Quoted by the club’s official website, Henderson said:

“For once, I’m going to have to put rivalries to one side to pay tribute to one of United’s players and I’ve no doubt that our fans will support me without question given it is Marcus Rashford. What he’s done over the last 12 months is incredible.

“He has battled against food poverty, given a voice to kids who otherwise wouldn’t have one and used his own reputation for the benefit of others. Every bit of praise, and every award he has won as a result, is not only deserved, it probably doesn’t do him justice.

“I hope Marcus knows that everyone at Liverpool Football Club has total respect for him. I count myself fortunate to have him as a teammate with England, but today that will count for nothing and knowing Marcus he wouldn’t have it any other way.”

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

Certainly, Rashford deserves huge amounts of credit for the work he has done and for challenging the injustices that have been going on for too long.

It’s great to see the Liverpool captain offer these words ahead of this huge game as well, with some things obviously more important than football.

However, once the final whistle goes all either player will be thinking about is the three points and hopefully, it’s the Reds that take them against their visitors.
