Jordan Henderson proved once again that he’s an absolute class act after Liverpool beat Chelsea on penalties to win the FA Cup final on Saturday.

The Liverpool captain broke away from the celebrations to console his England teammate Mason Mount, who was devastated after missing a penalty.

Mount saw his spot-kick saved by Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson. Kostas Tsimikas then stepped up and converted past Edouard Mendy as the Reds secured their second trophy of the season.

It meant more penalty shoot-out heartache for Chelsea, who lost to the same opponents in the same manner at the end of February’s Carabao Cup final.

Missing the decisive penalty in a shoot-out is one of the worst experiences that a professional footballer can experience during their career.

Aware that Mount was suffering during one of the toughest moments of his career so far, Henderson briefly stopped celebrating in order to have a one-on-one conversation with his crestfallen England colleague.

Henderson, who replaced Steven Gerrard as Liverpool captain in the summer of 2015, went on to describe Chelsea as a “fantastic team” in his post-match interview on Sky Sports.

He also conceded that winning a penalty shoot-out is like “the flip of a coin”.

But the FA Cup triumph means Henderson has now lifted six major trophies with Liverpool.

Per the Daily Mail’s Dominic King, only Emlyn Hughes and Graeme Souness (seven) have done more.

Henderson has constantly proved his critics wrong since joining Liverpool and will be remembered as one of the club’s most important players when the time eventually comes for him to leave Anfield.
