Henderson, of course, has seen his name take its place front and centre in the headlines for several weeks now.

This comes after confirmation was forthcoming that the experienced midfielder had set his sights firmly on a move away from the Saudi Pro League, just six months on from penning terms with Al-Ettifaq.

A whole host of clubs from across Europe, in turn, have been tipped as potential landing spots for Henderson.

As things stand, Dutch giants Ajax are viewed as being in the lead for his signature, inching towards a free agent deal after the 33-year-old reached an agreement with the Al-Ettifaq brass over the termination of his contract.

As alluded to above, though, had Henderson himself had his way, he could very well have ended up plying his trade in Spain for the remainder of the campaign.

This comes amid the revelation, by way of the aforementioned Sport, that the Englishman offered himself up to Barcelona.

With it common knowledge that Xavi and co. are desperate for fresh blood in the middle of the park, Henderson is said to have made contact with the Barca brass, to make himself available.

The Blaugrana, however, ultimately opted to turn the possibility down, with the all-action midfielder having been seeking a contract spanning beyond the summer into next season.
