Jordan Henderson, Mason Mount: England stars support Lionesses at Euro 2022 | OneFootball

England got their Euro 2022 campaign off to the perfect start on Wednesday after winning their opening match against Austria at Old Trafford.

A record-breaking 68,871 supporters packed out the Theatre of Dreams to watch the Lionesses kick off the tournament.

Fans have travelled from all over the world to be a part of the 13th edition of the European Championship, and they are joined by some of the biggest male footballers on the planet in supporting the women.

To show support for their female counterparts, a number of England men’s internationals have been sporting the Euro 2022 home shirt.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson represented Leah Williamson, who is wearing the armband for her country this tournament.

The Reds star, who has also captained England during his career, arrived at club training earlier this week wearing the Lionesses jersey. Both England stars wear the No.8 for their country, so this was a particularly poignant nod of appreciation to Henderson’s fellow international.

“Supporting the Lionesses all the way! You’ve never seen an icon like @leahwilliamsonn,” the midfielder caption his Instagram post.

Chelsea duo Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell have also been rocking the Euro 2022 England shirt.

Mount, who is an active voice when it comes to promoting women’s football, uploaded three snaps of him representing fellow Chelsea star Fran Kirby.

“@frankirby with the flair! Let’s go @lionesses, bring it home!!” he wrote.

Last year, Mount took part in a fun BBC interview where he answered questions posed to him by schoolchildren. The 23-year-old was asked whether he likes women’s football, to which he admitted he is a huge fan.

“Love it, great question,” he said. “I was at home on the weekend and the women’s game [Man United vs Chelsea] was on as the main event.

“It’s brilliant to see. I watched the whole game. It’s special for the women’s game to be more in the spotlight now, and long may that continue.”

Chilwell showed some love for Manchester City star Demi Stokes in his post.

The Chelsea full-back praised his fellow defender, commenting: “Nothing gets past @demistokes. You’ve never seen defence like this.”

Along with the support for the women’s teams participating at Euro 2022, male players have taken a stand against sexist abuse towards their female counterparts by joining the Hope United movement.

The team features a number of high profile players, both past and present, working to squash online hate and providing social media users with the tools to make the internet a more accepting, safer space.

Stokes, Lucy Bronze and Ellen White, who are representing England at Euro 2022, are all part of the cause.. They are joined by the likes of Rio Ferdinand, Gareth Southgate and Declan Rice, as well as Liverpool trio Henderson, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson.
