As Burnley announced at the end of last week, the promoted side have activated their buy clause for Jordan Beyer. All negotiations and contracts have now been signed and he will move to the club in the summer. The eight-figure transfer fee is the highest Borussia have ever received for an academy product. “Jordan can be really proud of what he has achieved during his year in England. The fact that Burnley have activated the buy option and signed him permanently is proof of that. It's always a shame to lose one of the club's home-grown players, but with regard to the transfer fee and the club's philosophy, it's a deal that makes sense. We thank Jordan for his time with us and wish him all the best for the future,” said sporting director Roland Virkus.

Beyer, who was born around 20 kilometers from Mönchengladbach in nearby Kempen, began his career in his hometown with SV Thomasstadt Kempen. Following a move to Fortuna Düsseldorf’s academy in 2012, he joined Borussia’s youth setup for the 2015/16 season and went on to play for all academy sides from the U16s.

Beyer’s first-team debut came in the first round of the DFB-Pokal on 19th August 2018 in an 11-1 win against BSC Hastedt. His first Bundesliga appearance came the following week against Bayer Leverkusen (2-0) and he went on to play 33 times in the top flight for the club, as well as on three occasions in the DFB-Pokal. The defender also played 11 times in the second division for Hamburger SV in 2019/20, where he spent half a season on loan.

The 22-year-old quickly became a regular at Burnley this season after signing on loan. He played 30 times (1 goal) in the Championship and was a key man in their side as they won promotion back to the Premier League. Bayer also featured four times in the FA Cup and once in the EFL Cup. Burnley, under the stewardship of Vincent Kompany, marched to the Championship title with 101 points from 46 games.
