Celtic have been bizarrely linked with a transfer for Jonjoe Kenny. The former Everton fullback spent a short term loan at Celtic Park during the COVID season and is not going to be returning to the club.
Despite the anxiety-inducing link to a player during the COVID season, Celtic have been linked with the Hertha Berlin defender as his contract runs out.
As reported by BILD via Record Sport, Kenny has been linked with a return to Glasgow.
Celtic were desperately needing cover with Frimpong leaving for Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth £11.5m. Kenny appeared to be an exciting prospect and the club faced competition from Burnley to bring the player in during the January window; however, he failed to live up to any hype and his performances versus Rangers proved that he was not good enough to be at Celtic. Burnley were quoted £8m when they enquired about the former England U21 but he ended up at Celtic Park.
In his time at the club, Kenny made 15 appearances and assisted 4 times. He also managed to give away a corner from the halfway line which resulted in Rangers scoring during a Glasgow Derby draw.
Celtic have Alistair Johnston signed on a deal until 2029 and Tony Ralston deputising. It doesn’t appear that either will be moving on anytime soon and Celtic’s link is purely conjecture on the part of the German media and not something that Celtic fans should be worrying about.
