Shelvey will be available for selection for the trip to Plymouth this week, and he told the club’s media he was relishing the challenge of trying to win promotion with Burnley.

It feels amazing to get it done. It’s been quite a long process, but it’s all done now and I’m excited for it. I like the Club as a whole, every time I have played against Burnley at Turf Moor it’s been tough, but I’m part of this team now and my aim is to do my best to help this Club get back into the Premier League, where it belongs.”

Jonjo Shelvey can help Burnley’s promotion push

This is a great opportunity for Shelvey to show what he can do back in England, and even though it’s only a short-term deal, he will surely be backing himself to earn a longer contract.

It may not be the most eye-catching signing, but Shelvey will bring experience and know-how to the dressing room, and that could be very important as the pressure builds over the coming weeks and months.

On the pitch, Shelvey was always a technically excellent footballer, and Scott Parker clearly thinks he will add something to the team with his passing range.

Ultimately, it’s now down to Shelvey. He may need time to get up to speed, but once he is match fit, he will need to battle to earn a place in the XI, which will be a very tough task given the quality he is up against.

For Burnley, this is a low-risk move that improves the strength in depth, but fans will surely be hoping for more attacking additions ahead of the deadline.
