According to Florian Plettenberg, Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Jonathan Tah could still sign for Bayern Munich before the end of the transfer window.

Over the course of the summer, the future of the German international has largely been unknown.

With interest from Der Rekordmiester, it appeared as though a move to the Allianz Arena was likely.

However, Bayern elected not to sign the 28-year-old, despite verbally agreeing on a fee with Die Werkself.

This did, therefore, seem to confirm that Tah would remain at the BayArena for the upcoming campaign, despite his contract set to expire in 2025, meaning he would be a free agent in twelve months time.

Nevertheless, as Bayern’s interest cooled, Barcelona enquired about the German defender, with the Spanish giants looking to bolster their defensive options.

It is believed that they would be willing to pay €30 million for the 28-year-old after leaving a possible deal for RB Leipzig’s Mohamed Simakan due to Die Roten Bullen’s €50 million demand.

Regardless, Bayern have now returned to the table for Tah, and they have been informed that they would have to pay €30 million upfront at the stage of the window if they were to secure his signature, having previously agreed to pay €25 million with €5 million in future add-ons.

With three days of the transfer window remaining, anything is possible, but Tah has made it clear that he either leaves now or as a free transfer next summer, as a contract extension at Leverkusen is not an option.
