Jonathan Rowe (21) swapped Norwich City for Olympique de Marseille this summer on a loan deal that will become permanent at the end of the season. The winger has already made a mark on his new team after he scored the winning goal against bitter rivals Olympique Lyonnais last weekend.
The England U21 appears to have adjusted well to life in a new country, but this would hardly be the first time that football had caused the young winger to move. Rowe was spotted by Norwich scouts while he played for his local team, AFC Wembley, in the London borough of Brent.
It’s a similar story to Raheem Sterling (29) who like Rowe grew up in sight of the arches of Wembley. And as Rowe told L’Équipe, the England international and Chelsea player is someone that he looks up to as an inspiration.
“He showed the way to a lot of youngsters from our country, proving that it was possible to apply for big clubs and for the national team. We like Raheem, he’s a role model for us,” Rowe explained, before pointing out that on a personal level, he also models his game on Sterling. “His style of play is similar to mine, fast, direct, and I also want to score from the wing.”
