Jonathan David has been in stellar form with Les Dogues this season, hitting 13 goals in 29 Ligue 1 Uber Eats appearances, but he has also tasted success with national team Canada, who on Sunday clinched an historic 4-0 win over Jamaica to secure a place at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar in November and December. After losing 1-0 to Costa Rica last Thursday, Canada's chances of qualification took a blow, but the resounding win over Jamaica was enough to secure the Maple Leafs a first crack at football's holy grail since Mexico in 1986.
Although he didn't score, David played the whole match and will doubtless play a key role as Canada move on to their next challenge: turning heads at the finals in Qatar from 21 November to 18 December and improving on their 1986 group-stage performance of three defeats and - in an area David will surely be ready to make a massive contribution - zero goals. Before then, however, the striker who has drawn the attention of many of Europe's big clubs with his consistent goalscoring has his work cut out helping reigning Ligue 1 Uber Eats champions LOSC to continue their current six-match unbeaten streak and clinch a European place, starting with the visit of Bordeaux on Saturday 2 April.
