Blackburn Rovers head coach Jon Dahl Tomasson has admitted that Thomas Kaminski missed yesterday’s clash with Wigan Athletic due to a knee injury and will now undergo a scan in order to learn the extent of this issue.

Kaminski had featured in every league game that Blackburn had participated in up until last night and was replaced in the starting eleven by Aynsley Pears.

Pears went on to claim a clean-sheet at Ewood Park as this particular fixture ended in a stalemate.

Ben Brereton Diaz was denied in the opening stages of this clash by Wigan keeper Ben Amos.

Danel Sinani then fired an effort wide of the target for the visitors.

Following the break, Martin Kelly prevented a dangerous cross from reaching Bradley Dack.

Kelly then had a goal ruled out for Wigan as Callum Lang fouled Rovers midfielder Lewis Travis in the penalty area.

As a result of this draw, Blackburn moved up to seventh in the league standings and are now level on points with West Bromwich Albion.

After his side’s meeting with Wigan, Tomasson shared an update on Kaminski.

Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph about Kaminski, the Rovers boss said: “I don’t know, there will be an examination in the next couple of days.

“He had a little bit of a problem for a while but nothing he couldn’t deal with and nothing that was affecting his performance.

“(On Sunday) there was a circumstance, so let’s see what happens.”

The Verdict

Blackburn will be hoping that Kaminski’s injury does not turn out to be too serious as he has established himself as a key player for the club since sealing a move to Ewood Park in 2020.

As well as featuring on 115 occasions for Rovers in the Championship, Kaminski has also represented the club in the FA Cup and the League Cup.

If the keeper is set to miss a chunk of action, Blackburn will need Pears to step up to the mark in their upcoming fixtures.

Pears ought to be full of confidence heading into this weekend’s meeting with Watford as he has managed to prevent Rovers’ opponents from scoring in three of his last four appearances in all competitions.
