John Swift has admitted that West Bromwich Albion are hoping to challenge for a top-two finish in the Championship during the 2022/23 campaign.
Swift opted to secure a move to Albion last month as he signed a three-year deal at The Hawthorns.
During his time at Reading, the midfielder illustrated that he is more than capable of setting the second-tier alight with his abundance of creativity.
In the 190 games that he played at this level for the Royals, Swift scored 32 goals and provided 36 assists.
West Brom stepped up their preparations for the new term last week as their players returned for pre-season training.
Having finished 10th in the league standings earlier this year, the Baggies will be determined to put this disappointing season behind them by making a positive start to the upcoming campaign.
With West Brom set to face Middlesbrough on July 30th, it will be interesting to see whether Swift is given the nod to make his debut in this particular fixture.
Making reference to West Brom’s ambitions for the new term, Swift has admitted that the club are hoping to challenge for a place in the top-two in the Championship.
Speaking to Albion’s official website, Swift said: “It’s massively exciting to challenge for the top spots.
“I think everyone else is excited as well, promotion is the least that we want, obviously we want to be higher and push for the automatic spots.
“Hopefully we can get a good start, especially at home.
“We want to make our stadium somewhere that other teams will be fighting to go and hopefully we can start really well.”

The Verdict
When you consider that West Brom managed to back up this particular signing by securing the services of Jed Wallace on a free transfer, there is no reason why they cannot go on to challenge for automatic promotion with these two players in their side.
Wallace provided 18 direct goal contributions for Millwall in the second-tier while Swift was involved in 24 goals as he helped Reading avoid relegation to League One.
By making a promising start to the 2022/23 campaign, West Brom could build the foundations needed to launch a bid for a place in the Premier League.
Providing that he is able to maintain his fitness, Swift could go on to become a key player for the Baggies as he clearly knows exactly what it takes to thrive in this division.
