Manchester City will return to action in the Premier League this weekend when they take on Luton Town. They played terrific football to extract a draw against Real Madrid at the opponent’s home ground. Hence, they will be high in confidence.

The Citizens still have a decent chance of lifting the domestic title as they are just a point off the top position. Pep Guardiola’s men will focus on collecting three points and leave the rest to the hands of God. A couple of key players might be rested.

Defence

It remains to be seen if Stefan Ortega will continue to operate between the sticks or Ederson will return to playing XI after having recovered from a muscle injury. In the defence, City might prefer fielding a three-man backline to control the game up front.

While Ruben Dias and Manuel Akanji are almost certain to guard the goal, Josko Gvardiol might get a rest as he recently returned from an injury. In that case, Sergio Gomez could get the nod to start on the left full-back.

Midfield

Both John Stones and Rodri should get rest to keep them fresh for the second leg against Real Madrid next week. Hence, Kovacic will start as the holding midfielder alongside Rico Lewis, who likes to play higher on the pitch.

Jack Grealish, who played a vital role in City’s draw, and Jeremy Doku are expected to operate on the wings. While Bernardo Silva retains his spot, Kevin De Bruyne is set to walk back into the lineup. The latter midfielder couldn’t participate against Madrid due to illness.

Attack

It will be interesting to see if Pep Guardiola benches Erling Haaland to manage his minutes or not. Julian Alvarez would be the one to fill his spot for sure.
