According to , City duo Aymeric Laporte and John Stones will miss the next two weeks after injuries caused on international duty. Laporte especially had made a fine start to the season after keeping three clean sheets in a row with three victories to go with his first three appearances of the campaign.

Pep Guardiola had initially hoped that the pair may have returned post-Chelsea but now the centre-backs are set to miss further trips to Paris and Liverpool before the international break commences the week after. The pair should be ready to make their returns from injury when City resume their season against Burnley on the 16th of October.

Laporte had initially come back with 'niggles' but was able to play against Leicester before the injury became too severe to play while John Stones was injured during England's match with Poland but wasn't substituted and went on to finish the match.

The pair being out now means that the only senior centre-backs at the club are Ruben Dias and Nathan Ake, who will no doubt be tasked with playing the next three games straight. That leaves City with two academy prospects - Luke Mbete and Finley Burns - to cover Ake and Dias.

Pep Guardiola was full of praise for City's youth players after the 6-1 thrashing of Wycombe in the Carabao Cup but it is unlikely that he'll throw in Burns or Mbete for major high stakes games against three of Europe's top sides next week.

City's next four:

Chelsea (A) - 25/9/21

PSG (A) - 28/9/21

Liverpool (A) - 3/1/21

*Burnley (H) - 16/9/21
