He turns 40 in January, but it appears Atiba Hutchinson might not be quite done with international soccer after all.

The veteran midfielder captained the CanMNT at their first World Cup campaign since 1986 - when he was just three years old - and almost scored in Thursday's 2-1 defeat to Morocco, hitting the underside of the crossbar from a header.

It was thought that match against Morocco would be Hutchinson's international swansong and that his header brought him inches away from signing off by delivering Canada's first-ever World Cup point.

That wasn't to be, but speaking to reporters after the loss at Al Thumama Stadium, Herdman hinted that Hutchinson - who is still under contract with Turkish giants Besiktas until June - could yet feature in a red jersey again.

“He wanted to go out at this tournament,” Herdman admitted, adding: “But I think you see him perform now, and you watched him for that 30 minutes and be able to come in with that sort of warrior spirit. Then you've got to look at our depth chart. You've got to look at what's coming through that system, especially if he’s still playing at Beşiktaş for the rest of the season.”

Hutchinson's appearance against Morocco was his 101st for Canada, during which time he's scored nine goals. The midfielder is the only Canadian male to reach a century of caps.
