Birmingham City head coach John Eustace has revealed that Gary Gardner and George Hall both joined in with the squad today in training ahead of the club’s clash with Cardiff City.

Both of these players have been forced to watch on from the sidelines for the club’s recent fixtures due to their respective injury issues.

Eustace has also admitted that Nico Gordon and Krystian Bielik could potentially return to training next week.

Bielik, who secured a return to Birmingham on a temporary basis last month, is currently recovering from an issue that he sustained whilst on international duty with Poland.

As for Gordon, he also has yet to make an appearance for the Blues this season.

In the absence of this quartet, Birmingham have made a relatively encouraging start to the new term under the guidance of Eustace.

Whereas the Blues were eliminated from the League Cup by Norwich City earlier this week, they have secured a respectable total of four points from their opening two league fixtures.

Ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Cardiff, Eustace has shared an update on Gardner, Hall, Gordon and Bielik.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference (as cited by Birmingham’s official Twitter account), Eustace said: “Gary Gardner and George Hall joined in with the squad today which is big for us.

“Nico Gordon and Krystian Bielik will be joining in next week hopefully.”

The Verdict

This is an encouraging update for Birmingham as these four players are clearly all making progress in terms of their fitness.

When Hall, Bielik and Gardner are ready to feature for the Blues, they could potentially force the likes of Ryan Woods, Jordan James and Juninho Bacuna to step up their performance levels by providing some added competition in the heart of midfield.

Gordon meanwhile will be hoping to earn the opportunity to showcase his talent at centre-back in the not-too-distant future.

When you consider that the Bluebirds suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Portsmouth in the League Cup on Tuesday, there is no reason why Birmingham cannot go on to secure victory at the Cardiff City Stadium this weekend.
