Former Red John Barnes has recently been talking about Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Oxlade-Chamberlain was linked with move away from Anfield this summer. The Englishman only made 17 appearances for Liverpool’s first-team last season.
However, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has stated that Oxlade-Chamberlain has a future at Liverpool.
Despite that being the case, Barnes believes that Oxlade-Chamberlain should depart Liverpool Football Club this summer.
Barnes added that Oxlade-Chamberlain should considering signing for either Leicester City or West Ham United.
Barnes told BettingOdds.com the following: “I think [Ox should join] Leicester or West Ham.
“Leicester would probably be a bit better suited because they’re more stable than West Ham as they know that they will be in the top seven most seasons, which isn’t the case for West Ham.
“However, if he wanted to go back down south then I think West Ham would be a good move for Alex, too.”
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
We don’t agree with Barnes’ comments.
We believe that Oxlade-Chamberlain has plenty of good football left in him. The midfielder is only 27 years of age. His career is far from finished.
Oxlade-Chamberlain missed 20 games through injury last season, so there is context as to why he struggled to get out on the pitch throughout the 2020-21 campaign.
The reality is, neither Leicester City or West Ham United have made it clear that they want to sign Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer.
Therefore, Oxlade-Chamberlain can’t join a club that does not want to sign him.
