Norwich City's new manager has an Adam Idah plan amid Celtic transfer interest

New Norwich City manager Johannes Hoff Thorup says he wants to assess striker Adam Idah this summer before deciding on his future, in an apparent blow to Celtic.

Having fallen down the pecking order at Carrow Road, Idah was allowed to temporarily leave the club back in the January transfer window, moving to Celtic for the second half of the campaign.

The 23-year-old then went on to enjoy an impressive spell in Glasgow. In total, he scored nine goals and provided two assists in 19 appearances in all competitions.

In doing so, he helped the club to the Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup title, and it has since been reported that they will now look to sign Idah on a permanent basis this summer.

However, it seems as though Norwich may not yet have decided if they are willing to let the striker leave the club again this summer.

Johannes Hoff Thorup gives Adam Idah update

Back when Idah was loaned out in January, it was David Wagner who was still in charge as manager at Carrow Road.

The German guided the club to a sixth place finish in the regular Championship season during the 2023/24 season.

However, they then missed out on promotion to the Premier League, after defeat to Leeds United in the play-off semi-finals.

That led to the sacking of Wagner, who has since been replaced by Thorup, with the 35-year-old leaving his role with Nordsjaelland in his native Denmark to take over as Norwich manager.

It therefore now seems as though the new Canaries boss is keen to see Idah in action for himself, before taking a decision on the future of the 23-year-old.

When asked his plans for the striker this summer, Thorup was quoted by The PinkUn as saying: “Yep. I definitely want to assess him. He’s an exciting player and he’s from here. He can do dangerous things up front. I will definitely have a look at him.”

Having originally joined Norwich at youth level, Idah has gone on to make 115 first-team appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring 17 goals and supplying four assists.

As things stand, there are still four years remaining on his contract with the Canaries, securing his future at Carrow Road until the end of the 2027/28 season.

That does ensure that they will be in a strong position to respond to any offer that Celtic make for him this summer.

Norwich City taking the right approach with Adam Idah

It does make a lot of sense to give Thorup the chance to assess Idah this summer, before deciding whether or not to let him return to Celtic.

The striker showed during his spell up in Scotland towards the end of last season, just how good he has the potential to be in the right situation.

As a result, he does have the potential to be an asset for Norwich as they look to win promotion to the Premier League in the coming campaign, if they can replicate that.

Indeed, with the change in manager there has been at Carrow Road, Thorup may be someone who is capable of getting more out of him.

It would therefore be a big gamble to decide to let him go without at least looking into whether he can produce his Celtic form at Norwich, especially when his contract situation means they are under pressure to sell this summer.
