Eddie Howe’s side started the day in the relegation zone, trailing Norwich by a single point.

But they climbed out of the bottom three with a superb 3-1 victory over the Toffees.

It was Frank Lampard’s side who took the lead after Jamaal Lascelles’ own-goal.

But, despite that set-back, Newcastle were able to turn the game around.

They almost immediately hit back as Mason Holgate put the ball in his own net.

Ryan Fraser’s 56th minute strike gave the Toon the lead, before Kieran Trippier banged in a free-kick with 10 minutes remaining to seal Newcastle’s victory.

Joelinton started the game in midfield. Newcastle paid £45m for the Brazilian’s services in 2019. He was signed with the hopes that he would be their talisman for many years to come.

But he has had a torrid time in front of goal in a black and white shirt. He has notched just 11 goals in three seasons for the club.

And his woes in front of goal continued in a quite comical moment at the end of the first half.

Joelinton had a golden opportunity to score and give his side the lead. He was only 10 yards out.

But he stumbled and his shot ended up hitting himself in his own head. Watch the moment below…

How on earth did he manage that?!

The moment has gone viral and you can understand why. You certainly don’t see a fail like that every day.

Fortunately for him, the ball went to a teammate and Newcastle eventually won a corner. But it could – and should – have been so much better for Howe’s side.

It wasn’t to prove costly, though, as Newcastle went on to win all three points.

Newcastle are now up to 17th and are two points clear of the bottom three.

They are next in action on Sunday afternoon, where they take on Aston Villa at St James’ Park.
