Joel Glazer pens open letter to Manchester United fans after ESL debacle

As covered on the club’s official website, Manchester United owner, Joel Glazer has penned an open letter to the fans following the chaos created by the European Super League (ESL).

Glazer was one of the architects of the now-disbanded breakaway competition “European Super League”, involving 12 self-proclaimed big clubs of Europe including Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham, Manchester City from England.

Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Juventus, AC Milan and Inter Milan made up the rest of the group as the twelve clubs came up with an outrageous idea for a closed competition for monetary benefits.

However, the idea was shut down just two days after its official announcement amid huge backlash from fans across the globe. It was Chelsea and Manchester City that first pulled out before the rest of the Premier League clubs followed.

And Glazer, who was set to be the vice-chairman of the said competition, has written to the fans, admitting that he and the rest of the parties involved, got it wrong.

He further added that the owners will do everything possible to rebuild the trust with the fans. Glazer acknowledged that the idea of the Super League was flawed as it tried to changed the deep-rooted ideologies of the game.

Joel Glazer also acknowledged that the club needed to communicate better with the fans, who are at the heart of it, while reasserting that necessary steps will be taken to keep supporting clubs lower down the footballing pyramid.

The Glazers have been at Manchester United since 2005. And the fans, by now, know very well that these are nothing but shallow words.
