Joel Glazer has moved to reassure Manchester United supporters that extra effort is being made to improve their engagement within the club’s fan base.

The co-owner directly addressed fans during the latest quarterly meeting of the United Fans Forum – via video link from the United States.

Glazer outlined that a number of improvements have already been made since he addressed those same concerns at the Forum in June. He also issued a promise to invest in Old Trafford and the Carrington training ground.

Joel Glazer said (via Manchester Evening News): “We said a few months ago it was important that we expand this Forum to have a more diverse representation of our fan base – and I think we’re taking good steps in that direction.

“There’s still work to be done. It’s rather complex, I think everyone’s realising as they get deeper into it. But we’re jumping those hurdles. We’ll continue to progress and, hopefully, bring that to a conclusion in the not-too-distant future.”

Criticism has followed the Glazer family everywhere for a number of reasons – but, mostly for us, it’s their business model for Manchester United.

Fan anger reached a fever pitch back in April when United were one of the 12 clubs trying to form the now-shelved European Super League (ESL), which was spearheaded by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez.

This put the Glazers as well as other greedy owners under intense pressure but not just from supporters. Key figures of the game hit out and the plan was quickly dispersed as it was seen as an attack on the beautiful game.

Glazer added: “We’re very happy with the summer. We can always improve. There’s always more work to be done.”
