Leicester City are reportedly keen on Nottingham Forest captain Joe Worrall, with Brendan Rodgers eyeing up the Championship centre-back ahead of the summer.

Worrall’s main focus right now will be on helping the Reds win promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs but it seems the player and his club could have a decision to make in the summer.

What do we know so far?

According to a report from The Sun, Leicester have been running the rule over Worrall as they search for defensive reinforcements ahead of the summer.

It is said that the centre-back is unlikely to leave if the Reds win promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs – with the prospect of representing his boyhood club in the top flight too good to turn down.

However, Forest are expected to sell one or two of their key assets should they fall short – and the 25-year-old is among those.

Leicester are not the only club interested either, with West Ham United linked with a £15 million deal back in March.

Worrall penned a new four-year deal in 2020, which is set to keep him at the City Ground until summer 2024.

Is it likely to happen?

If Forest fall short in their promotion push this term, then we certainly could see Worrall join the Foxes.

It will be difficult to prize the Reds skipper away if they’re preparing for a season in the Premier League but if they’re still in the Championship both the player and his club may be tempted by top-flight offers.

That said, it would not be a surprise to see the 25-year-old remain at the City Ground even if there is interest and they are still in the second tier.

It appears increasingly likely that Brennan Johnson will leave if Forest are not promoted and the fee from any deal involving the young attacker would likely mean the Championship outfit are able to reject offers for Worrall.

There is so much positivity surrounding the East Midlands club under Steve Cooper that even if they fall short, the captain may feel he wants another go at promotion with his boyhood club.
