Joe Rodon is currently doing an excellent job at Leeds United.

Joining on a season-long loan deal from Tottenham Hotspur, the Wales international will be looking to put himself in the shop window ahead of the summer transfer window.

Although he would ideally want to return to the English capital and play a key part in Ange Postecoglou's first team, but that looks unlikely, having been loaned out again this term.

Making just 24 competitive appearances for Spurs during his time in North London, there's little hope of him reviving his career there and he may need to revive his career elsewhere, like Jack Clarke has done at Sunderland.

There's no shame in that, because it was always going to be a big jump making the move away from Swansea City, but he must get his career back on track when he makes his next move.

His next destination could end up being Leeds United, but with Spurs reportedly keen to generate £10m-£15m from the Welshman's sale, the Whites may need to win promotion at the end of the season to give themselves the best chance of signing him permanently during the summer transfer window.

Unfortunately for Daniel Farke's side, they look set to be just one of several teams interested in the defender, with "multiple" Premier League sides believed to have submitted enquiries for him in January.

But Spurs are thought to be keen to cash in on him and this is a boost for Leeds, who are keen on retaining him.

He has been one of the first names on the teamsheet for the Whites, performing well and playing his part in guiding the club into third place, with a chance of securing a top-two finish at the end of the campaign.

Joe Rodon's contract situation at Tottenham

Rodon signed a five-year contract in October 2020, when he first arrived at the club.

And with his lack of appearances in mind, it's no surprise that he hasn't signed an extension.

It doesn't seem as though Spurs have an option to activate a 12-month extension on his existing deal either, meaning his current contract is set to expire next year.

It seems unlikely that the defender will extend his stay at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium beyond then, with that unlikely to benefit either party.

Rodon needs game time - and he isn't a key part of Spurs' plans.

Spurs won't want to lose Rodon for nothing after forking out a big fee on him back in 2020.

With one year left on his deal, there will be pressure for the top-tier side to sell him this summer and because he doesn't have that long left on his deal, Tottenham will only be able to demand a limited amount for his signature.

That can only help Leeds, especially if they are in the top flight.

But a return to the top tier seems imperative for the promotion contenders, not just so they can afford the defender, but also so they can persuade the Welshman to make the permanent switch to Elland Road.
