Manchester United’s academy striker Joe Hugill played 90 minutes including added time as Burton Albion were beaten by League One rivals Cheltenham.

Burton took the lead just before the break when substitute Steve Seddon gave his side the lead.

However, Cheltenham came out guns blazing after the interval and didn’t take long to restore parity as they found the back of the net just six minutes after half-time through Matt Taylor.

Cheltenham would go on to take the lad 20 minutes later courtesy of defender Curtis Davies. As it turned out, his finish was enough for Darrell Clarke’s men to secure the victory at the Pirelli Stadium.

It was a significant blow for Hugill and Burton who proved incapable of building on their previous win against 10-man Stevenage.

From a United fan’s perspective, the worrying this is that once again, Hugill struggled to make an impact in the match.

The 20-year-old still has the one goal to his name, which he scored on his debut for the League One outfit.

Against Cheltenham, Hugill registered two shots, both of which failed to hit their mark and didn’t at all trouble Luke Southwood between the sticks.

He embarked on one dribble, which he didn’t complete.

Hugill had 33 touches of the ball during the time he was on the pitch. Another thing he struggled with was his passing. The forward attempted to find his teammates with 18 passes, but only managed to deliver five, managing a pass completion rate of 28%.

The young United player attempted two crosses and launched two long balls, successfully connecting with his target on one cross but missing on both long attempts.

Defensively, Hugill also faced challenges. He engaged in three ground duels but didn’t win any and was involved in twenty aerial challenges, managing to outperform the Cheltenham players only four times.

He turned over the ball 22 times and committed two fouls.

The Englishman also failed to make a tackle, clearance or interception.

Hugill will be hoping for better fortunes when Burton host Reading this weekend.
