A couple of Hart’s teammates rushed over to the 35-year-old, while medical staff raced onto the pitch to treat him.

Motherwell midfielder Barry Maguire, however, was seen gesturing at the goalkeeper to get up. He seemed to feel that the experienced ‘keeper was faking it.

Hart sustained the apparent injury after knocking into Sondre Solholm Johansen when the scores were level at 1-1.

Johansen was left rubbing his head after Hart caught him with an arm while attempting to gather the ball, which fell to Kevin van Veen on the edge of the box.

Hart rose to his feet but was left flat on his back moments later after his head went into Solholm’s side.

Did Hart go to ground theatrically? Was it a cynical attempt to win a free-kick after failing to catch the ball? Or was he genuinely hurt by what appeared to be a fairly light coming together?

Per the Daily Record, Hart was seen having a ‘heated discussion’ with referee John Beaton after he was deemed fit to play on by Celtic’s medical team.

Due to the potential consequences that concussions can have, head injuries have to be taken extremely seriously by match officials.

Therefore, players are aware that faking a head injury is unacceptable – though that doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen from time to time.
