Joao Felix pulled on the Chelsea shirt for the first time on Thursday night, but he couldn’t inspire his new side to victory as Fulham overcame the 10 men Blues to take a 2-1 victory.
Graham Potter’s side were down to 10 men after Felix himself got sent off for a lunge on Kenny Tete, forcing David Coote to brandish the red card.
Despite glimpses of promise from Felix, he now has to wait three games to impress his new side again following his dismissal, but he isn’t the first person to see red on debut. Who else has had an early shower after pulling on the new shirt for a first time?
Felix became the 22nd player to receive their marching orders on Premier League debut, becoming the 13th to do so for a straight red card, unlucky for some.
It was just 13 minutes into the second period when Coote was left with no option but to send him to the showers, but there have been 11 faster debut red cards in the Premier League era, but what was the quickest?
Back in 2004, Manchester City were taking on Everton, with the now powerhouses of English football handing a first start for midfielder Christian Negouai. Obviously he repaid them by getting sent off, but at least he did it quickly… It took just three minutes for his debut to be over, certainly one to forget!

On paper, it’s a woeful debut for the Portuguese forward. Red card before the hour mark and a 2-1 loss, how could it be anything other than a disaster?
Well, Felix himself was mightily impressive and one of the only positives the Blues could take from Craven Cottage, it’s just a disappointment that his debut ended prematurely. Chelsea fans themselves have claimed watching him was like rolling back the years to prime Eden Hazard!
He’s only at Stamford Bridge on loan and signed an extension before leaving the Wanda Metropolitano, so if he is to join the Blues permanently, they’ll have to break the bank!
